Buying Used Computer Parts — How Much They Cost and How to Check
A new RTX card can often cost the price of an entire PC — and the second-hand market has seen the same performance for less than $300. But where is the line between a good deal and a future headache? This guide will tell you which parts are worth buying second-hand, which aren't, and how to check before you buy.
Which parts are worth repurchasing?
Processor — the safest choice. A CPU has no moving parts and either works or it doesn't. If the system boots up and withstands stress testing, a second-hand Ryzen 7 or Core i7 will last you for years. Secondary processors We often sell them for half the price of new ones.
Video card — best price/performance, provided you check it properly. This is the most popular secondary part, and the reason is clear: a 2-3 year old flagship still comfortably handles modern games. More on risks and testing below.
Memory, case, cooling — Low-risk categories include: RAM is tested by MemTest86, a visual inspection of the case is sufficient, and the cooler is checked by fan noise and rotation.
Where should we be careful?
Power supply. An old or unknown PSU is a risk to the entire system — capacitors age over the years. Only buy a used PSU from a trusted brand (Corsair, Seasonic, be quiet!) and relatively new, or buy it directly from New power supply Buy — this is the part where saving is expensive.
Hard drives. HDD/SSD has resources: Terabytes written to the SSD (TBW) and HDD operating hours are checked with CrystalDiskInfo. A disk with a „Caution” status is not worth it at any price.
How to check a used video card
- Visually: Damaged capacitors, burn marks, deformed connector — immediate rejection;
- Stress test: FurMark or 3DMark for at least 15-20 minutes — the temperature should remain stably below 85°C;
- Artifacts: Flickering, colored dots or stripes on the screen during the test = memory problem;
- Driver and HWiNFO: Check the actual model and BIOS — it's rare, but fake/replicated cards do exist.
Why choose us?
All used parts on Gamers.ge undergo stress testing and condition assessment („used”, „like new”) before being sold — and they all come with a store warranty. That is, you pay the price of a used part, but you don't take the risk of an unknown seller. See Full catalog or build a system With the configurator — Order: +995 599 088883.
