RTX 5060 vs RTX 5070 vs RX 9060 XT — Which video card should I choose?
Three cards compete with each other in the mid-price segment today: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060, RTX 5070 and AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT. They differ from each other in video memory, performance, and price. In this article, we will discuss which one is justified in which cases.
Briefly about all three
- RTX 5060 — Entry-level RTX card. Good for Full HD (1080p) gaming, has full DLSS support, but 8GB of video memory limits it in the future.
- RTX 5070 — One step up. It comfortably handles 1440p (2K) resolution at high settings and is the strongest of the three in ray tracing.
- RX 9060 XT — AMD's answer. Available in 8GB and 16GB versions; that's right 16GB option Its main advantage is the price.
VRAM — Why is it so important?
Video RAM (VRAM) stores textures. When it runs out, games start to stutter — even if the card is fast enough. Some games from 2026 will require more than 10GB of RAM to run at 1440p and higher.
Practical advice: 8GB is enough for 1080p, but if you plan on using the card for more than 2-3 years or game at 1440p, 12GB or 16GB is a much safer choice.
For which resolution?
- 1080p, High settings: All three cards are sufficient. Here, the RTX 5060 or RX 9060 XT (8GB) is the most rational.
- 1440p, high settings: RTX 5070 or RX 9060 XT 16GB. The RTX 5060 is already getting a boost here.
- 4K: All three are weak for full-fledged 4K gaming — you'll have to lower the settings or actively use upscaling.
Ray tracing and upscaling
NVIDIA is traditionally strong in ray tracing processing — the RTX 5070 is easily the leader here. However, NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR Technologies allow you to significantly increase the number of frames with minimal loss of image quality. We have a separate article about this. Article on DLSS 4 and FSR 4.
Price-quality ratio
If you're on a tight budget and gaming at 1080p, the 8GB version of the RTX 5060 or RX 9060 XT is your best bet. If you can find the extra cash, RX 9060 XT 16GB Usually gives you the most video memory per dollar. And if you need ray tracing and maximum performance at 1440p — RTX 5070.
For whom which?
- I play CS2, Valorant, Dota 2: The RTX 5060 is more than enough — these games aren't heavy.
- I play modern AAA games at 1440p: RTX 5070.
- I want maximum VRAM at minimum price: RX 9060 XT 16GB.
- I edit video / work in 3D: RTX series cards are superior thanks to CUDA.
Conclusion
There's no one-size-fits-all answer — the choice depends on what resolution you're gaming at and how long you plan to keep the card. When in doubt, more VRAM is the safe bet.
