Computer repair in Tbilisi — what you need to know
Is your computer not turning on, shutting down while playing games, or slowing down significantly? Before you contact service, it's helpful to understand what's going on and what to expect. This will help you avoid unnecessary expenses.
The most common malfunctions
- The computer won't turn on. Often the cause is the power supply, sometimes the motherboard, or simply a loose cable inside.
- Shuts down or reboots during gameplay. Typical causes are overheating or an insufficient/worn out power supply.
- Blue screen (BSOD). Most often it's a software driver; but it could also be faulty RAM.
- It slowed down dramatically. Usually a full or worn disk, dust, dried thermal paste.
- Noise. Worn fan bearing or HDD mechanical problem.
- There is no picture. Video card, cable or monitor.
What can you check yourself?
- Make sure the power cord and the power button on the power supply are turned on.
- Check that the monitor cable is plugged into the video card and not the motherboard.
- Open the case and look — is there any dust buildup? Are the fans spinning?
- Measure the temperature with HWiNFO if the system still boots.
These simple steps quite often solve the problem without going to the service.
How to choose a service
Before you leave the technology behind, ask yourself these questions:
- Is diagnostics free? Many services provide diagnostics for free or reduce the cost of repairs.
- Will there be a preliminary agreement on the price? Work should not begin until you have been given a quote and agreed to it.
- What is the warranty on the work performed and the replaced part? The answer should be specific, expressed in months.
- Will they issue a receipt or not? With serial numbers? This protects you from component substitution.
- Will the old part that was replaced be returned? A good service will return it to you upon request.
What does the price depend on?
The cost of repairs varies greatly depending on the nature of the problem. Preventive cleaning and replacing thermal paste are relatively inexpensive procedures; when replacing a component, the bulk of the cost is the price of the part itself; repairing the motherboard at the component level is the most time-consuming. You will only be told the exact cost after diagnostics — beware of services that promise a fixed price over the phone, without an inspection.
When is it better to upgrade instead of repair?
There is a reasonable limit. If the cost of repair exceeds half the price of a new computer of the same class, and the system is already 6-7 years old, the investment is no longer justified. Especially if it is an old platform and upgrading the processor or memory already requires replacing the motherboard.
In such a case, it is better to invest your budget in a new configuration — our team will help you. Configurator and A guide to organizing on a budget.
